About the Role:

The Assistant Swim Lessons Helper plays a vital role in supporting the swim instructors to deliver safe, effective, and enjoyable swim lessons at the Oahe Family YMCA . This position focuses on assisting with the preparation and execution of swim classes, ensuring that all participants receive attentive guidance and encouragement. The role requires close collaboration with instructors to maintain a safe aquatic environment, monitor swimmers’ progress, and provide individualized support to learners of varying skill levels. The Assistant Swim Lessons Helper contributes to fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere that promotes water safety and confidence in the pool. Ultimately, this position helps enhance the overall quality and success of the YMCA’s swim education programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Basic swimming ability and comfort in the water.
  • Ability to follow safety guidelines and respond calmly in emergency situations.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with children, parents, and staff.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality for scheduled lessons.
  • Minimum age of 14 years or as required by local regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience assisting with swim lessons or working with children in aquatic settings.
  • Certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Knowledge of water safety practices and swim instruction techniques.
  • Ability to motivate and engage children of diverse backgrounds and skill levels.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist swim instructors in setting up equipment and organizing lesson plans before classes begin.
  • Support swimmers during lessons by providing encouragement, helping with basic skills, and ensuring safety protocols are followed.
  • Monitor the pool area to identify and respond promptly to any safety concerns or emergencies.
  • Help maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the pool deck and surrounding areas.
  • Communicate effectively with instructors, parents, and participants to provide updates on progress and address any concerns.
